The power of plants, the excellence of expertise.
Precious active ingredients, in-depth knowledge, the art of using them effectively.
For millennia, aromatic plants have been used for their properties and fragrances. Over time, knowledge of their constituents has grown, allowing us to better understand the richness of these plant-based raw materials.
At C-H-O Nature, essential oils have held a special place since our beginnings. We are convinced that they have much to offer cosmetics, provided we know how to select, combine, and dose them precisely.
For while nature offers exceptional richness, it also requires knowledge. The quality of a formula depends as much on the choice of its ingredients as on the mastery of their use.
Plant concentrates with multiple properties
An essential oil is a concentrated extract obtained from an aromatic plant, generally through steam distillation or, for certain citrus fruits, mechanical expression.
It contains a complex set of aromatic molecules whose composition varies depending on the plant, its origin, the part used, and the extraction process.
This richness explains the diversity of properties studied in relation to essential oils and their constituents.
In cosmetics, some are notably sought after for their aromatic properties, while others may be of interest for functions such as purification, skin balance, or protection against certain oxidative phenomena. However, their effects depend on the oil used, its concentration, the formula in which it is incorporated, and the available data.
Essential oils are therefore not defined by their fragrance alone. They are complex raw materials that require genuine formulation expertise.
Why do essential oils have a place in our skincare?
For their cosmetic properties
Essential oils contain molecules whose biological properties have been documented. Depending on their composition, they may offer interesting activities in the development of cosmetic formulas.
However, their benefits should not be generalized to all essential oils: each raw material has its own profile and must be studied in light of its intended use.
At C-H-O Nature, we select ingredients based on their suitability for the formula and the needs the skincare product is intended to address. We thus seek coherent combinations in which each ingredient finds its place.
For their aromatic richness
Essential oils possess a complex olfactory signature composed of numerous aromatic molecules. They give our skincare products their sensory identity without the need for added fragrance.
Their scent fully contributes to the skincare experience. Fresh, floral, woody, herbal, or enveloping, the aromatic notes invite you to take the time to discover the texture, breathe naturally, and enjoy the moment.
For their sensory and emotional dimension
The sense of smell is closely linked to the brain mechanisms involved in memory and emotions. A familiar scent can thus evoke a memory or give rise to a particular sensation.
This is the dimension that particularly interests us at C-H-O Nature. In our Skin & Mind Longevity approach, skincare is not limited to the application of a formula: it becomes an experience that combines the skin, the senses, and the pleasure of taking time for yourself.
We do not promise that an essential oil will systematically produce a specific emotional effect. Rather, we wish to create pleasant olfactory experiences conducive to a more mindful and sensory beauty routine.
C-H-O Nature expertise: know, combine, dose
Essential oils are not all alike. Their composition, properties, and precautions for use differ. Their use therefore requires much more than the choice of a pleasant scent.
Since 2009, C-H-O Nature has developed expertise in plant and essential oils, their characteristics, and their combinations. This formulation heritage is at the heart of our identity.
Know the raw materials. Understand their composition, their documented properties, their quality, and their limitations.
Create coherent synergies. Combine ingredients according to their complementarity and their suitability for the skincare product's cosmetic objectives, without assuming that all combinations are necessarily beneficial.
Master concentrations. Determine dosages suited to each formula, taking into account the application area, exposure, and available safety data.
Assess safety. Incorporate essential oils into formulas whose safety is assessed for the intended use, in accordance with the requirements applicable to cosmetic products.
Today, we continue this expertise with French manufacturing partners, respecting the identity and formulas of C-H-O Nature.
Because a well-chosen essential oil is not enough: it is its proper place in the formula that matters.
Powerful ingredients that require precautions
Natural does not mean risk-free. Essential oils are concentrated raw materials that can, depending on their composition and conditions of use, cause irritation, allergic reactions, or increased sun sensitivity in some cases.
Their use in cosmetics therefore requires careful selection, an appropriate concentration, and a safety assessment of the final formula.
At C-H-O Nature, we ensure that skincare products are designed for the use they are intended for. We also invite you to follow the directions for use and precautions indicated on each product sheet.
A few essential tips:
-
Use the skincare products according to the provided directions and do not use them for purposes other than those intended.
-
Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes, unless otherwise specified on the product.
-
If you have sensitive or reactive skin, consult the precautions specific to the product and seek advice if in doubt.
-
If a skin reaction occurs, discontinue use of the product.
-
If pregnant or breastfeeding, check the specific recommendations for each formula before use.
Safety does not depend solely on the natural origin of an ingredient. It depends on its composition, its concentration, the formula in which it is incorporated, and how the product is used.
Safety at the heart of our approach
Each C-H-O Nature product, like any cosmetic product sold in Europe, undergoes a safety assessment by a qualified external toxicologist, who examines the formula and the intended conditions of use. Relevant data regarding skin tolerance and special situations, notably pregnancy, are taken into account in this assessment.
This approach allows us to determine the precautions for use appropriate for each product. It does not mean that all formulas are suitable for everyone: certain situations require specific restrictions.
And during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a period during which certain precautions are necessary. Essential oils have very diverse compositions, and the available safety data are not sufficient to consider all essential oils or all formulas containing them as suitable for this period.
This is why we pay particular attention to this situation when assessing our products.
C-H-O Nature skincare products that are not recommended for pregnant women are clearly indicated on their product sheets. To date, this precaution notably concerns:
-
The Timeless Beauty Oil
-
The Nourishing and Soothing Cream
-
The Eye Contour Beauty Oil
We invite you to systematically consult the product sheets before use. If in doubt, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Our commitment is simple: to offer you skincare products formulated with excellence, accompanied by transparent information and precautions tailored to each product.
Nature deserves knowledge
At C-H-O Nature, we believe in cosmetics that do not choose between naturalness, effectiveness, and sensoriality.
Essential oils perfectly illustrate this belief: rich and complex plant-based raw materials that reveal their benefits when selected, combined, and used with discernment.
This is the standard that has guided our work since our beginnings and that we wish to bring to life in each of our skincare products.
The richness of plants. The precision of formulation. The pleasure of the senses.
C-H-O Nature — More serene, more beautiful.
